“I graduated Lighthouse in 2012, and I am forever grateful for the program. Living a life filled with substance abuse and alcoholism left me pretty beat down. I was angry, hurt, and broken. During my stay at the old women’s Lighthouse on Walnut Street. I became willing to get honest and make some serious life changes. It took me a while to get it right, though! I had several setbacks while I was there. These setbacks landed me back in jail and into another long-term treatment facility. At this point, I had to comply with two different programs. Apparently this was exactly what I needed, because I’ve been clean ever since!

My transformation from a hopeless, lost junkie to who I am now has been nothing short of a miracle. I’ve replaced my anger with gratitude, and my hurt with peace! Instead of being broken, I have become whole! My children have a mother they can be proud of. They have learned so much during this recovery journey, right along with me. We are able to go to Lighthouse to help out during Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other holidays and events. The kids see me put a lot of effort into the annual Recovery Poker Run, as well. It’s no secret that I’m passionate about recovery. By doing these things, it’s instilled empathy, generosity and love in my kiddos. Again, I am forever grateful. My childeren know and respect the fact that I sponsor ladies, and these ladies become friends. We are welcomed with open arms at Lighthouse and Sandy’s House. This is love. This is recovery.

I’ve managed to maintain friendships and relationships along the way that are dear to me. Today, I am a decent person- I’m a good parent. Recovery has made so many dreams become my reality. I am happy and proud of the person I am today. I am a homeowner. I am a business owner. I am a good friend. I am an addict… We do recover!”
